Indigenous Affairs Reporter

Job Description
Modern Farmer is a publication for people who have the desire to be closer to—and more educated about—the food on their plates. Blending hands-in-dirt service, soulful inspiration, and whip-smart reporting, Modern Farmer understands that a tomato is never just a tomato—it’s also a political, and deeply personal, statement about who we want to be and the world we hope to live in.

We’re looking to hire an Indigenous Affairs Reporter to join our growing editorial team. This position is full-time and remote.

What you’ll do:
— Responsible for writing three stories per week
— Generate original story ideas focused on Indigenous communities and foodways
— Report and write feature stories about Indigenous groups driving awareness, conversation and change in the agriculture and food spaces
— Build upon a broad network of sources
— Collaborate with team for social media and/or copy editing work

— A journalism degree or relevant experience
— At least five years of experience working in a newsroom or writing for a magazine
— Passionate and keenly versed in tribal and Indigenous affairs
— The ability to produce clean copy on deadline
— The ability to work independently, but also as part of a team remotely
— Experience covering food and/or agriculture is an asset

Benefits include healthcare reimbursement and retirement contributions. Salary: $50,000-$55,000.
