Community Guidelines
We love the Modern Farmer community and encourage active participation in the discussions happening in the comments section of our stories, on social media, and through responses to our weekly newsletter. In the interest of maintaining a constructive and respectful community space, we ask that readers adhere to the following guidelines.
Be civil
Please respect the varied experiences and perspectives of writers, article subjects, and fellow readers. The best comments build on the topic in a thoughtful and constructive way, adding an additional perspective, sharing insight, or asking questions that advance the conversation without attempting to disparage or invalidate others.
Stay on topic
Please keep the conversation relevant to the topic at hand. Avoid tangents and grievances. If there’s another topic within the food system you wish to discuss, there is likely a Modern Farmer article on it—we encourage you to share your thoughts in the space most conducive to advancing a constructive conversation.
Build the community knowledge base
Please feel free to offer any advice, insights, examples, or lessons learned relevant to the subject being discussed that help your fellow readers actively participate in building a more equitable and resilient food system.
Moderation policy
The Modern Farmer team moderates all comments for adherence to our community guidelines. Comments that include harassment, personal attacks, derogatory remarks, sexually explicit content, or deliberate misinformation will be removed, as will comments that are off-topic, repetitive, or include commercial promotion. Modern Farmer has a zero-tolerance policy for comments that are transphobic, racist, sexist, homophobic, or contain any form of hate speech.
Thank you for helping us build and maintain a positive and constructive solutions-oriented community space.
