Can Biodigesters Save America’s Small Dairy Farms?
The sustainable technology presents an opportunity to turn cow manure and food waste into renewable energy and added income. But biodigesters are not always easy to operate, and they can be costly to replace.
Great article – I worked with the AD guy who built that digester…maintenance costs need to be planned for and grants are out there……thanks for the read!
Sounds good, many benefits. Suggest as time goes by the technology will mature, bringing costs down.
The feedstock to the digester is nature fertilizer for the land. When it doesn’t go back to the land and artificial fertilizer is used in its place aren’t we maintaining our dependence on oil? In my opinion digesters are not renewable energy, they turn natural fertilizer into fuel for heat. Feels like a backward step and easily sold to people who don’t understand life cycles.
