Are You Taller Than The World's Tallest Cow?

North of Freeport, Illinois, very close to the Wisconsin border, lies the farm home of Blosom (sic) the cow. Blosom, according to the Chicago Tribune, came to the Meads family farm about 13 years ago in a lot of several, with her name on her tagged ear, and no further information. Early on, two unusual things about Blosom (besides her name; how is it pronounced? Is it “blossom” but misspelled? Or does it rhyme with “bosom”?) became clear: she could not produce milk nor give birth, and she is absurdly large.

Normally, a cow that can’t give birth and can’t be milked won’t last all that long at a farm, but Blosom’s placid — dare we say, bovine — nature and gigantic stature endeared her to the Meadses, who kept her around as a sort of pet. These days, at age 13, Blosom is officially the tallest cow in the world, according to Guinness (not a perfect source, but certainly we can’t find a taller cow). Guinness measured her at 6’4″ to her shoulder, far taller than the typical five-foot-tall Holstein cow. It’s estimated she weighs as much as 2,500 pounds.

Now, height isn’t the best way to measure a cow’s size, given that cows are four-legged, but there’s no other way a human can be bigger, so we’ll just go with that. Here’s a small list of cool, famous celebrities who are as tall, or even taller, than Blosom the cow: Conan O’Brien, Liam Neeson, Jason Segel, and Chevy Chase (all 6’4″), Vince Vaughn and Howard Stern (6’5″), RuPaul (6’7″), Hulk Hogan (6’8″), and Michael Crichton (6’9″). The tallest living man in the world, also according to Guinness, is Sultan KÁ¶sen, at 8’3″. The tallest land animal in the world is the giraffe, which can reach 18 feet tall.
