How 10 superstar dogs, 1 superstar cat – and you – can raise $10,000 to help bring service dogs to disabled children and veterans.
That’s exactly what Nutrena® Pet Foods recently discovered. The manufacturer of high quality pet food hosted a casting call to find dogs and cats whose furry face could adorn the packaging of Loyall Life™ Super Premium pet food, which launched in spring 2016. However, there was a twist. The company specifically wanted rescue, therapy, and service pets. The call was a success, drawing over 150 happy dogs and cats (and their owners) from the Minneapolis area.
A Heart-Warming Revelation
“We specifically looked for rescue, therapy or service pets to grace the front of our packaging, as part of our marketing efforts to promote these animals who selflessly give back to us humans,” said Tamara Caruso, marketing communications lead for Nutrena Pet Products. “We believe that every pet has a story and we wanted to highlight that with choosing these animals. It was refreshing to see so many pets that were either rescues and/or giving back to their communities by visiting nursing homes, schools, libraries and hospitals. It was very heartwarming.”
Some of the stars include Bogart, a border collie who dances with his human mom in nursing homes. Malcolm, a trained therapy cat who loves to snuggle. And Huckleberry, a rescue mix who is working toward soothing kids about to enter stressful courtrooms.
Sharing Their Tales
As the owners shared their stories (and a few happy tears), the marketing staff knew they were dealing with some very special animals. Not only would photos of 11 (10 dogs, 1 cat) be featured on a bag of Loyall Life pet food, each owner would be videoed telling her or his “Loyall Life Story.” Nutrena Pet Food would then share their stories on social media.
Help Multiply the Good: Watch and Raise $10,000
The company saw an opportunity to take the good a step further. It’s now inviting consumers to visit nutrenaworld.com/loyall-life to watch the videos. If they receive 25,000 views within the year, Cargill will donate $10,000 to Service Dogs Alabama (SDA). SDA is a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from shelters and rescue organizations and trains them as service dogs for children and military veterans with disabilities, and facilities that serve those populations. SDA also uses inmates to train dogs specifically for its programs. Learn more at www.servicedogsalabama.com.
“We chose SDA because they align with our mission of supporting rescue, therapy and service dogs who are doing amazing things,” Caruso said. “When people watch our Loyall Life Stories, they can know they’re furthering our quest to multiply the good.”
