September 4: Stories That Caught Our Attention This Week

Cuba's organic revolution, Donald Trump and ag, and more. Check out what the Internet taught us this week.

Earlier this week, The Guardian introduced us to a BAMF (badass modern farmer) by the name of Fernando Funes Monzote, who’s starting an organic revolution in Cuba. He’s trying to find solutions to the problems many of his farming brethren face. We think he’s pretty cool.

Also on the cool list (don’t you want to be on the cool list?) are goats about an hour north of Modern Farmer HQ in Loudonville, New York, hired this week by the town to keep public grass and foliage at a reasonable level. But how will they be paid? We’d venture to guess Donald Trump wouldn’t want them to be. Politico reports that many farmers think he’s bad for agriculture. No official reports on his opinion on goats, though.

In earthy news, it turns out the planet is home to 3.02 trillion trees. Kinda cool. Lots of oxygen being created in these parts (note: all parts).

Lastly, Wired opened our eyes to the world of selective chicken breeding. When humans toy with nature, things can get pretty weird.
